I read this book last year, though it was actually first published in 2008 (the English edition). The author, ‘A’id al-Qarni, was already known especially for “La Tahzan” book. I find this book about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him – PBUH) is one of the lightest one. When it comes to a book about someone, a biography, is usually thick and lengthy one providing all the minute details of the person the writer can get. But a book about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is totally different, as there are so many resources about him written in the Holy Quran and the hadith as well. It should be an exceptionally lengthy one, I suppose. However, this book only has 171 pages in total! Yet I found this a very concise one.
In the beginning, the author told us about the Prophet, from his name, background, his role as a child, becoming a messenger, and to his religion. However, later on the author divided the parts of this book not in accordance to the period. He divided through the Prophet’s characters and attributes. From one chapter to another we can see Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the truthful one, patient, generous, humble, etc.
I knew the Author could make outstanding literary works from his previous books. And so in this book. He told the story of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) not merely by a narration, but also through elegant sentences and also verses from the Holy Quran and quotes from hadith. I hereby quote some of the lines in this book from a chapter entitled “The Prophet’s lofty ambitions” (page 79):
You remained ‘upon an exalted standard of character’ even when you were threatened by death; you remained brave even when you were asked to give away all that you owned. You surpassed all of the world’s inhabitants – from the past, present, and future – in your piety, modesty, generosity, bravery, trustworthiness, knowledge, and every other fathomable noble quality. O Muhammad, you are, without a doubt, ‘upon an exalted standard of character’.
I highly recommend this book to be read by all, especially Muslims 🙂 The author (as I’ve mentioned earlier) is A’id al-Qarni. The publisher is International Islamic Publishing House.
Anyway, here’s another excerpt I’ve quoted to addin’s instagram before 🙂
