A State of Mind #HappinessProject

It’s been quite a long time not updating my blog. Things were happening and moving really fast back in these several months. I was busy doing my job as a bridesmaid for my sister.

Yeah, she got married last February. It was such a blissful and happy moment for us, especially my sister and her husband, and all of our family. Speaking of happiness..

Happiness is a state of mind, I guess.

There are things in life, either a tiny subtle little thing or a long awaited big thing that happened, making us happy. Either a simple smile from stranger who passed by or an acceptance letter of something we’ve been fighting for. Or as simple as having this delicious Um ‘Ali (middle eastern dessert) together with my brother and niece at my sister’s wedding.

However, it’s not only fortunate events that can make us happy. Imagine a poor lady who doesn’t whine about her life and just keep being positive and grateful. She could truly feel happy. On the other hand, if a rich lady who seemed to have everything at its finest in the worldly life, but never truly being thankful, she might feel empty and unhappy inside. So, happiness is a state of mind. It lies on ourselves, the decision of being happy or unhappy.

What we, as Moslems, learn about this so-called “happiness” in life, is to keep our mind being positive, and always remember this verse from the Holy Quran.

“and it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know.”Al-Baqarah (2): 216)

Not all the good things can actually make us happy, and not all the bad things can make us unhappy either! Just believe that everything happens for a reason, keep praying, and recite this beautiful supplication from the Quran:

“Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!” (Al-Baqarah (2): 201)
